Low-Cost Implementation of Reactive Jammer on LoRaWAN Network

The Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWA) has already started to gain a notorious adoption in the Internet of Things (IoT) landscape due its enormous potential. It is employed wide variety scenarios involving parking lot occupancy, package delivery, smart irrigation, lightning, fire detection, etc. If messages from LPWA devices can be manipulated or blocked, this will violate integrity collected information and lead unobserved events (e.g., fire, leakage). This paper explores possibility that violates message by applying reactive jamming technique disrupts Long Range Wide Area (LoRaWAN) network. As shown paper, using low-cost commodity hardware based on Arduino platform, an attacker easily mount such attack would result completely shutting down entire LoRaWAN network with high probability. Several countermeasures are introduced reduce attacks.
